the job that nobody SHOULD want…law enforcement

28 Dec

It is the kind of work where the employee will never become rich, in fact the wage is only average at best. The employees face danger every single shift and many have died in the line of duty. The average constable does not do glorified work in fact most of the public see them as an impediment to their daily lives and treat the on duty officer with disdain and a terrible attitude. If we look logically we will find that from the time the regular officer, whether he is driving with a partner on a beat in a particular area, or is walking a beat alone, or with a partner until the time they arrive back at the station house to punch out at the end of a shift are subjected to the very worst of what society has to offer.

A policeman is not called because someone is having a wonderful time. The Police are not called because there is no social problem to see to. NO, the police are summoned because the very worst members of society are acting outside of accepted social standards. That could be Junkies, Drunks, Prostitutes, Domestic Abuse cases, It could be because the people involved had used a weapon of some kind to subdue someone they did not like, that could mean that someone is dead. They might be called to a D.U.I where the chance of someone being killed is far greater, possibly a child.

If the police officer is working in the lower 48 states ( America ) then there is a number of other possibilities going all the way out of normal to include Terrorist attacks such as the events of 9/11. That isn’t to say that we here in Canada are immune to these outlaw acts however up until now we have been lucky.  Another thing that the law enforcement officers of America have to contend with far more than the members here in Canada do are Fire Arms Charges, for a great deal of social and cultural reasons beside the 2nd Ammendment which has done the U.S no great good at all. Canadians tend to think of Fire Arms a different way than do our neighbours to the South. The Cowboy element is not present here and anything that can eject a bullet is given a great deal more respect by all even the people who want weapons and see that as their right.

It is really quite amusing how people vilify the police who enforce laws; all the time they look down on them and jump to conclusions UNTIL they require their services. Then the very same people who were spitting on the officer the night before will be crying out for their help the next day. They will recieve that attention because they are citizens and are entitled to it, the night before will be forgotten because it has to be. I ask you to honestly answer this question WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO DO THAT?  My answer truthfully is that I might have a hard time arriving at the address within the required time.

So, next time you get pulled over for a ticket, and they ask to go through your car. Next time the police stop you and ask you some questions, try to think beyond what is happening at this very second.  You may fit the vehicle description of a murder suspect. There may be other things going on in the neighbourhood which you are not aware of.  Try to smile, take a deep breath and help the officer get through the affair, I am sure he would love to be doing something else to.  You never know later in the night you may be reaching for a phone to call those three digits 911 after which you will count the minutes which will seem like hours and you will be pi**ed off because you think that the average nine minutes took too long. Remember they are not sitting around waiting for your call they are busy. Probably dealing with stupid junk like a Domestic Disturbance, or a drunk who should have known better. However that is why they get paid the measly wage they do get paid…..Praxada
